Croton-Harmon High School sits on the Hudson about an hour from Fairfield County, and it looks a lot like a Connecticut district: a public high school with a board-set service requirement and a busy National Honor Society chapter. Before 2021, tracking meant paper forms and a thick binder for each graduating class, with no way to run a report and no way for a student with hundreds of hours to show it. Connecticut Service Credit, in Brief
Connecticut is one of a small number of states where community service and service-learning can count directly toward graduation under state law (Connecticut General Statutes §10-221a), with districts setting the hours and a half-credit option available. The State Board of Education also grants a community service recognition award to any student who completes 50 or more hours.
