Before Helper Helper, the Student Ambassadors at Manatee School for the Arts signed up for volunteer events on paper sheets hanging on a bulletin board, and students raced each other to the board whenever a new sheet went up. Advisor Andie Cummings then tracked every hour in a spreadsheet and verified them with each student one at a time. The Ambassadors have no hour requirement of their own, but their hours count toward Florida's Bright Futures scholarship, so every one of them had to be right.
Today the group runs on Helper Helper. Students sign up for events from wherever they are, the app tracks their hours, and Cummings validates them in a few taps. Student groups change hands. Advisors retire, officers graduate, and the person who built the spreadsheet takes its logic with them.
